ArtDegree.org publishes 27 creative arts program rankings covering music, art and design, film, photography, culinary arts, and online and affordable options. All are computed from the Creative Arts Program Quality Index 2026, which scores 212 programs on seven weighted factors: faculty credentials 18 percent, creative output and portfolio requirements 17 percent, curriculum breadth 15 percent, accreditation 15 percent, industry connections 15 percent, career outcomes evidence 10 percent, and cost value 10 percent. The database holds 456 records at 278 institutions across 51 states and territories, of which 294 hold specialised arts accreditation and 75 document an online option. We accept no payment from institutions and sell no ranking positions. Last updated August 2026.
Most creative arts rankings are based on reputation and prestige surveys. We rank on documented evidence: accreditation, portfolio structure, curriculum breadth, market access, and cost. That produces uncomfortable results, including well known institutions ranking below public universities, and we publish them as computed.
How are these rankings calculated?
Every ranking on this page draws from the same database and the same seven factor index, documented in full on the methodology page. Where we do not hold evidence for a factor, most commonly verified per program placement rates, we score it at field level from our own survey and say so on the page rather than estimating around the gap.
