What are the limits of this ranking?
Screenwriting outcomes are highly variable and largely unmeasurable at program level.
Access depends on individual faculty relationships that change when faculty leave.
Competition placement and fellowship success are individual outcomes, not program attributes.
There is no hiring pipeline from screenwriting programs into studios, and any claim otherwise deserves scrutiny.
What this means for you
Write three complete scripts and apply to every fellowship and emerging writer program you are eligible for. That plan costs nothing and it is the same plan a program would give you.
Pay for a program only if you know you do not write without deadlines. That is a legitimate reason, and it is the only one that reliably justifies the cost.
No. The market reads pages, not diplomas. An MFA gives you two years of enforced production and a cohort who will read your work for the rest of your career. Whether that is worth six figures depends entirely on whether you write without deadlines. Be honest about the answer.
